Update Oct 10 2015
Fellow members ,
As we come to the end of another boating season the situation in the harbour is much the same as last year with the town having just 30 seasonal slips available for rent. The town maintains a waiting list and we would encourage anyone that wants a seasonal mooring to complete the attached application form and get it to the PRC department 2nd floor Public Library. It will not cost you anything until a mooring slip becomes available.
This waiting list presently with 70-80 people on it is one way the town gauges the demand for seasonal docking.
The Waterfront Master Plan that was to be started in 2015 is finally underway with Expressions of Interest being solicited from qualified consultant teams ,the deadline for registration is Oct 23, 2015 .
The municipality undertook a Community Based Strategic Plan earlier this year the report was approved by Collingwood Council Sept 21. It was good to meet some of our members who participated in the Action workshops.
The message from the Community was clear Priority #1 is – Public Access to a revitalized waterfront. As we already have public access in all the town owned space ,the part that was voiced by the public and omitted in the report is the need for the town to acquire Block 10 from the developer Fram. This is the abandoned waterfront lot between the old dry-dock and Heritage Drive.
The developers unsuccessfully tried to sell this in 2012-2013. The Towns Official Plan designates it medium density residential. The people at the workshops voiced passionately it is not in the best interest of the community to have a multi level condominium building on the waterfront denying the public access to the harbour.
We have a need for more public space here at the heart of the town overlooking the harbour.
A special thanks to Robinson’s Paint and Wallpaper who provided Bing with paint to clean up the town owned docking space on the east side of the Launch Basin.
With you our fellow members support we shall continue our quest for more accessible public space both in and around the harbour.
